This spot sits on Migmatitic gneiss of Farmington Canyon Complex, mapped as medium- to light-pink-gray, strongly foliated and layered (migmatitic) quartzo-feldspathic rock with widespread garnet and biotite; also contains unmapped granitic gneiss pods, and some thin layers of sillimanite-bearing, and biotite-rich schist. that formed roughly 2500 to 1600 million years ago. Plutonic rock like this weathers slowly into grus and boulders, and the most productive collecting is typically in weathered zones and drainages.
