Where to Find Fluorite in New Mexico
New Mexico fluorite is concentrated in the Bingham district of Socorro County, where the Blanchard, Mex-Tex, and Royal Flush mines produce purple, blue, and water-clear cubic fluorite alongside galena, barite, and linarite. The deep purple Blanchard fluorite cubes, sometimes color-zoned to clear interiors, are among the best in the world. Other districts at Hansonburg (adjacent to Bingham), Tortugas Mountain near Las Cruces, and the Caballo Mountains in Sierra County add green and brown fluorite. Surface collecting on the Blanchard ground is mostly closed; club trips and fee access are the standard means of entry.
