About Chandlers Creek
Chandlers Creek runs about 17 km south-east of Glen Innes, near the village of Red Range in the New England sapphire district. The Geological Survey of New South Wales records both sapphire and cassiterite from the creek, which was worked commercially by sluicing and dredging in 1970 and 1971. Unlike the public fossicking spots closer to Glen Innes, the creek flows through grazing country and is not a designated fossicking area, so access depends on landholder permission. No licence is needed to fossick in New South Wales.
