Where to Find Cerussite in Utah
Cerussite is the oxidized lead carbonate that caps most of Utah's old lead-silver workings. The Mammoth, Centennial Eureka, and Bullion-Beck mines in the Tintic district produced reticulated, sixling, and tabular cerussite crystals on limonite matrix, and the dumps still yield collectable material. The Horn Silver mine at Frisco in Beaver County is the second classic locality, with snowflake-like cerussite aggregates often associated with anglesite and silver halides. Smaller showings in the San Francisco district and the Gold Hill area carry similar oxidation suites. Cerussite is brittle and the better crystals are easily snapped, so wrap them individually in the field.
