About Wedderburn
Wedderburn sits at the northern end of Victoria's Golden Triangle, a district renowned for coarse alluvial nuggets, including the Hand of Faith, found with a metal detector in 1980 at nearby Kingower. Prospecting with a Victorian Miner's Right is allowed on Crown land and in the Kingower, Glenalbyn and Sunday Morning Hills State Forests, with designated areas in Kooyoora State Park and the Wychitella Nature Conservation Reserve. Gold panning is permitted in seasonal waterways such as Kingower and Korong Creeks, though the Loddon River is off limits. Hard Hill Tourist Reserve and the State Gold Battery in town preserve the field's mining history.
