About Big Fish River
Big Fish River lies a short distance southeast of Rapid Creek in the far northern Yukon and cuts the same Cretaceous sequence of phosphatic ironstone and shale. The river is famous for phosphate nodules carrying rare species such as wolfeite and satterlyite, along with lazulite, wardite, gormanite, augelite, siderite and quartz; some of the finest wardite crystals known come from these Yukon occurrences. Like Rapid Creek, this is extremely remote Arctic terrain with no road access, workable only a few months each year.
