Where to Find Jasper in Texas
Texas jasper concentrates in two regions. The Llano uplift in Mason, Llano, and Burnet counties yields red and brown jasper from the Precambrian metamorphic core, sometimes with hematite banding. Brushy Creek and Honey Creek produce surface float that takes a glassy polish. The Trans-Pecos volcanic belt in Brewster and Presidio counties adds plume jasper, picture jasper, and brecciated material on the same ranches that produce the Big Bend agate. Bouquet jasper, a brecciated red-and-yellow variety, comes from the Stillwell Ranch country. Most Texas jasper ground is private, so plan around ranch fee-dig access.
