Monte Creek, in the South Thompson valley east of Kamloops, is a documented amethyst occurrence in the Kamloops Mining Division. The setting fits the regional pattern described by the BC Geological Survey: basalts around Kamloops commonly contain gas-bubble cavities (amygdules) that can hold agate, quartz, amethyst, chalcedony, calcite and zeolites, which weather out as geodes and thunder eggs.
