About Monte Creek

Monte Creek, in the South Thompson valley east of Kamloops, is a documented amethyst occurrence in the Kamloops Mining Division. The setting fits the regional pattern described by the BC Geological Survey: basalts around Kamloops commonly contain gas-bubble cavities (amygdules) that can hold agate, quartz, amethyst, chalcedony, calcite and zeolites, which weather out as geodes and thunder eggs. The broader Kamloops and Monte Lake district is one of the Interior's most active collecting regions, with agate and related silica minerals the usual finds.
