Pollock: Agate & Petrified Wood Rockhounding in Grant Parish, Louisiana

The gravel-capped Kisatchie Hills around Pollock shed agate, jasper, and petrified wood, including palmwood, into the road cuts and creek bottoms of the Catahoula Ranger District. Material eroded from the Catahoula and Citronelle gravels concentrates on stream bars after rain, which makes surface hunting productive without any digging. It is one of the few places in Louisiana where collecting sits on public national forest land rather than private property. Reported finds include agate, petrified wood.
