About Red Cross Lake
The Red Cross Lake pegmatites, in remote northeastern Manitoba, are a swarm of lithium-rich, lepidolite- and petalite-bearing dikes intruded into rocks of the Oxford Lake greenstone belt. Researchers describe the suite as extremely fractionated: albite, quartz and muscovite grade into rubidium- and cesium-rich lepidolite, with accessory spessartine garnet, elbaite and rossmanite tourmaline, beryl, pollucite, amblygonite and rare oxides of tantalum, niobium and tin. The locality is known through geological research sampling rather than as an established collecting site.
