Fowler Beach: Quartz Rockhounding in Sussex County, Delaware

Fowler Beach is an undeveloped Delaware Bay shoreline on the edge of Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, and one of the better free beaches in the state for the water-clear quartz called Cape May diamonds, with scattered chalcedony, jasper chips, shells, and sea glass in the wrack and pebble lines. Because it is a natural, low-traffic beach rather than a groomed resort strand, fresh material keeps working up after storms. It is a quiet, honest Delaware Bay beachcombing spot with none of the state-park collecting restrictions. Reported finds include quartz.
