About Noel Creek

Noel Creek, south of Gold Bridge at the west end of Carpenter Lake, is one of two significant in situ nephrite bedrock sources in the Cadwallader Range. The jade lies at the contact between the Bridge River and Cadwallader terranes, the sheared serpentinite setting typical of British Columbia nephrite. The occurrence was at one point a major producer, with records of over 500 tonnes extracted. Float nephrite is comparatively rare around the source itself, though alluvial jade collected from the Bridge River downstream likely derives from it. Nephrite occurrences in this district are covered by mineral claims, and casual collecting from claims is not allowed.
