About Alces Lake
Alces Lake lies north of Lake Athabasca in far northern Saskatchewan, about 34 km east of Uranium City and 135 km west of Stony Rapids, reached by air or by a seasonal winter road. It hosts some of the highest-grade rare earth element occurrences in Canada, with the metals held mainly in monazite within biotite-rich pegmatites and shear zones; surface samples have graded up to 50 percent total rare earth oxides. Zircon and garnet accompany the monazite in the pegmatites. The ground is an actively drilled exploration property held by Appia Rare Earths and Uranium, not open for casual collecting.
