About Foster River

The Foster River area of remote northern Saskatchewan lies along the southeastern margin of the Wollaston Domain, a belt of Paleoproterozoic metasedimentary rocks metamorphosed to upper amphibolite and granulite facies during the Trans-Hudson orogeny. The area hosts metamorphosed zinc-lead-silver mineralization, and its metaquartzites and metaarkoses locally carry gahnite, spessartine garnet and graphite, with iron formation and quartz garnetite among the associated rocks. Garnet-bearing gneiss is widespread in the district, which is documented through mineral exploration and research rather than as a collecting destination.
