Geology at Willard

This spot sits on Quartzite of Facer Formation, mapped as white to pale-gray, vitreous to translucent, highly fractured, yet cliff-forming quartzite with minor white mica (sericite or muscovite), and green mica (fuchsitic) and rare chlorite; intercalated with quartz-muscovite (sericite) schist that formed roughly 2500 to 540 million years ago. Metamorphic rock like this weathers into resistant float, and minerals that survive transport typically concentrate in nearby drainages.
